LGBTQ+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (or sometimes questioning). The “plus represents other sexual identities. LGBTQ+ (other acronyms may also been seen) is being used as an umbrella term, however, we recognise that people who may identify with the title do not exist as one group. Everyone is different and shall be treated as such.

It is recognised that LGBTQ+ people are at a higher risk of experiencing poor mental health and wellbeing. Being LGBTQ+ does not cause this issue, instead, it is dealing with challenging experiences such as discrimination, homophobia, and bullying directed towards people who identify as LGBTQ+ that causes this higher risk.

It is important to remember that whatever your identity or background, you deserve support and respect. It might not be easy, but getting help with issues you’re struggling to deal with on your own is one of the most important things you can do.
