Overview

Exams at Netherhall are mainly taken in May and June of year 11.

In addition, the courses comprise of a combination of practical tests, coursework and controlled assessments which can take place at various times during year 10 and year 11.  Some have written exams that take place in November or January. As these options vary depending on the subject, please enquire with your child’s subject teacher for further information relating to each course.

Coursework

JCQ Guidance regarding coursework is available for download at the bottom of this page.  Each student should ensure that their work is their own and must sign a declaration to that effect.

Contingency Date 2023

The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) have announced the contingency days for the summer exams series 2023. The dates that have been set aside are the afternoons of the 8 and 15 June as well as the day of 28 June 2023.

The contingency days for ALL external examinations have been put in place “in the event of national or significant local disruption to examinations during the June 2023 examination season”

Therefore, in the event of a major disruption, JCQ and/or the relevant awarding bodies may decide to postpone an exam to another date in the June 2023 exam series. This means that any students sitting external exams in June 2023 MUST be available until 28 June 2023 to sit any exams that had to be postponed.

External Candidates

Netherhall only accepts external candidates where the student is a former pupil re-taking an exam.  We are not able to accept other external candidates.

Guidance

The Joint Council for Qualification (JCQ) requires that we make students aware of the rules that govern exams.  Their offical guidance document can be downloaded below and is also emailed to students along with their timetables in March.  Students will also have an assembly to explain the rules as well having mock exams to experience them.

Home Languages

From year 10 students can opt to take a GCSE in their home language.  An invitation email is sent out to parents during the autumn term with an application form for completion.  No charge is made for this but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate all languages.

Post Results Services

Details of the costs for these services are emailed to students together with their results.

Review

If a student is unhappy with their grade there are a number of services available from the exam board whereby the grade can be reviewed.  Students need to be aware that a review can reduce a grade as well as improve it.  Application forms and further details are available form the exam office.

Script Copy

Students are able to apply for a copy of their script if they wish.

Resits

Students who wish to resit an exam can do so the following year at their own expense.  An application form is available from the exams office and needs to be returned together with payment by mid January; the exact date will be shown on the form.
