Parents & Friends of Netherhall

PAFN

Welcome to Parents and Friends of Netherhall. We are a group of parents who set up a new PAFN team in September 2017, and we are keen to involve as many people as possible. Our aims are to build and support a school community whilst also raising funds where possible. We are registered with the PTA UK and now have a small committee voted in at our most recent AGM in November 2021. We meet either in person or more recently on Zoom about once a term, and also aim to host an event each term.

Committee and Team

We currently have a very small committee supported by marvelous team of helpers.

However, since all our children are nearing the end of their time at Netherhall we are looking for a new group of people to take over and continue the life of PAFN. Ideally the new team can start before we depart, allowing for a handover period. If you are interested please get in touch and come along to our meetings. This is really important because without a new committee PAFN will be forced to close.

Upcycled Uniform Scheme

We have started to work with the school to support an upcycled/ second hand uniform service. So far we have organised two very successful uniform events, following emails from the school asking for spare uniform. We have also helped with the organisation and storage of stock. We feel that this is an incredibly valuable role we can play in the school community, both helping out during the current cost of living crisis and supporting a more sustainable approach to uniform.

Popular Past Events

International Food Evenings (Autumn Term)

This is a very informal evening held in the school atrium foyer. It offers a chance for parents and carers to catch up, meet new people and find out more about PAFN.  These events are open to everyone but with an international theme and selections of food on offer to sample

 Quiz Nights (Spring Term)

We have hosted two evening so far, in 2018 and 2020. They are lively and fun evenings with teams of students, parents and teachers and we’ve been very lucky to have a volunteer a staff member host the quiz, last time it was Mr Lanza from the Maths Department

Chocolate Bingo (Spring Term)

In 2022 we hosted our third Chocolate Bingo – a normal bingo based on the luck of the draw and entertained by the wit of the compere, but with all the prizes made from chocolate!!!

Information Evenings (Summer Term)

May 2018 – First Aid essentials evening hosted by the Cherry Hinton Branch of the St John Ambulance.

June 2018 – A small group of us helped review the school’s remote access information

July 2018 – We helped arrange a Governors Workshop seeking to engage with parents in a deeper way on the areas explored through the Annual Survey and looking at areas such as communication, behaviour and homework.

July 2019 – Adolescent Mental Health Information Evening – we welcomed Sara Ireland and Kathy Murphy from the Cambridge City Early Help team to tell us more about teenagers and what to look out for when things go wrong.

In 2022 we hope to run further events and would be interested in topics you might want to cover.
